Hedvig Roos got a summer job after a viral Facebook post

Hedvig Roos, 19, lives in Stenungsund and has Down syndrome. For two years she searched feverishly for a summer job, but to no avail.

Then Hedvig’s mother Jessica decided to call for a summer job for Hedvig on Facebook – and the reception went viral. The post was shared by almost 20,000 people and received attention in the media, including TV4.

– It has been overwhelming and dizzying. I posted the post mostly so that someone in my network would share. So we weren’t prepared for this at all, says Jessica.

The post led to Hedvig receiving almost 70 offers, from north to south. So finally she got her job. She has spent the summer of 2023 as a breakfast hostess at a hotel in Stenungsund.

– It was nerve-wracking the first day, but it was fun. I had to greet people good morning and be nice to the guests. I had to do the dishes.

Now the plan is for Hedvig to continue working at the hotel, as an intern during the autumn one day a week. Hopefully, the internship leads to continued employment.
