The author, psychologist and Holocaust survivor Hédi Fried is dead, the family says DN.
Fried was born in Romania in 1924 and survived the time in the Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps before coming to Sweden by boat in July 1945.
In addition to his profession as a psychologist, Fried has for over 30 years traveled around to Swedish schools to talk about his experiences. She has been deeply involved in issues of democracy and in spreading knowledge about racism.
– Hédi has meant so much to Sweden and to all of us who are fighting to carry on the memory of the Holocaust, says Adina Broström, founder of the association Zikaron.
Over the years, Fried has received a number of awards. In 2002 she was awarded an honorary doctorate at Stockholm University and in 2015 she received the Raoul Wallenberg Prize.
Hédi Fried was 98 years old.
