Europeans are approaching in all the countries of the Union. In France, the election will take place on June 9. And each party is currently finalizing its list of candidates. It is a proportional election, with a single round. So, places are expensive at the top of the list, especially for parties in bad shape in the polls. But each team also treats the bottom of its list with candidates in ineligible positions.

In France, like five years ago, Marine Le Pen will close the list led by Jordan Bardella. The leader of the deputies of the National Rally, a three-time presidential candidate, announced it herself during the party’s first campaign meeting, at the beginning of March, in Marseille.
Since then, other teams have in turn announced that their leader would take part in the vote for Europeans, but at the very bottom of the list and in a position where their election is impossible. Jean-Luc Mélenchon will be on the list of the Insoumise Manon Aubry and Éric Zemmour on that of Marion Maréchal.
The last will be first
In the presidential camp too, the battle for the last place has begun. Emmanuel Macron himself would have insisted that Édouard Philippe and François Bayrou appear at the bottom of the list. But which one, the boss of Horizons or the boss of Modem, will be last? Even for the bottom of the list, the negotiations are not simple. Among the LR, Bruno Retailleau, Laurent Wauquiez and Olivier Marleix are considering putting their names on the list. But nothing is done.
“ If Jean-Luc Mélenchon is on the list, it is to push and give us strength », admitted Manon Aubry in mid-March. This symbolic participation has two advantages: exposing the figures of each party and involving them in the vote, without risking them being elected. Pure and simple display, in short, to prepare the ground for another election: that of the 2027 presidential election.
