Heavy for coachless Uppsala: “A tough week”

Vittsjö away from home is a difficult task as it is. The turbulence of the last few days hardly helped the newcomer Uppsala, who had to leave Skåne without a point.

Hanna Ekengren headed in the only goal of the match in the sixth minute, after a precise cross from the left from Charlotte Grant.

— It’s always nice to score early. Both to keep our confidence up throughout the match and to continue this trend of winning, says Ekengren to Viaplay.

Bouncy lawn

The 1-0 win was enough to secure the third straight victory for Vittsjö, which at least temporarily climbs up to fifth place in the Swedish women’s table.

All the more difficult for Uppsala, who are still waiting for their first win of the season. With only three recorded points in seven rounds, the team has only Brommapojkarna and IFK Kalmar behind them.

— It’s a difficult away game, probably every team in the women’s league knows that. And the grass is … I don’t know, it bounces and is hard to play, especially for those of us who are used to artificial grass. But it is nothing that can be blamed. We try and work and run for each other. But we don’t really get the maximum out, says Uppsala’s Johanna Renmark.

The match against Vittsjö marks the end of a difficult week for Uppsala. Immediately after Wednesday’s 1-1 match at home against Djurgården, the players received the unexpected message that head coach Jonas Valfridsson is resigning. Assistant coach Rikard Östergren also left his position this week.

“The energy was gone”

To UNT, Valfridsson says that he simply does not have the energy to continue.

— It’s more about me wanting to give the players the best possible conditions going forward. The energy was gone. I made the decision a few days before, discussed both on Tuesday and on Wednesday. Instead of throwing in the towel in that situation, my family and I discussed that I run the match. There were quite a few players on site, even injured ones that you don’t see in training. I had the opportunity to talk to almost the entire group and thank them for this time, says Valfridsson to UNT.

Against Vittsjö, the team was led by sports manager Julius Brekkan and F17 coach Hanna Spets. The temporary coaching constellation failed to guide the team to points.

— Everyone is humble. It has been a tough week for us. Julius and I work well together. You have to make the best of the situation, says Uppsala striker Klara Folkesson to Viaplay.
