There has been rain and debris in several parts of the country in recent days – and there will be more.
This weekend, SMHI has issued warnings for both floods and high flows.
– We are in a weather situation that we have had for a while now, with very warm air to the south of us colliding with the significantly cooler air over the Atlantic, says Peter Kondrup, meteorologist.
The heat has kept a firm grip on the southern parts of Europe this summer. It has meant more unstable weather did the same in Sweden. And this weekend new rain is expected to create floods in central Sweden.
– There are one or even two areas of rain that will cross the country in the next few days, says Peter Kondrup.
Moves in across the country
Already during Friday, the first areas of rain swept across the country.
– During the day, they have moved over Götaland, Svealand and up towards Norrland, and it is precisely over southern Norrland that it may be strengthened during the night, he says.
From midnight until lunchtime tomorrow Saturday, SMHI has issued yellow and orange warnings for torrential rain.
– Yellow warning has been issued over Hälsingland parts of Medelpad and southern Ångermanland, he says.
The situation worsens during the weekend
As soon as the first rainstorm subsides, the next wave of rainstorms comes over the south of the country.
– It comes from the south with even more rain and covers an even larger area. It starts already in the morning over western Götaland, then towards lunchtime over eastern and southern Svealand and then towards evening and night over northern Svealand and southernmost Norrland.
The rain is also falling over areas where orange warnings have already been issued for the risk of flooding – and for some areas it could be severe.
– This is not good at all because these are already rain-saturated and waterlogged areas.
