Heat stroke and stomach ailment affect camp scouts

– During the day you don’t go into the tent, because then you faint, says Elsa Sköldberg, who is on site in Saemangeum south of Seoul, to SVT News

Since the Swedes arrived at the camp, it has been up to 40 degrees, and not a single day below 30, she and her friend Klara French say. All activities are cancelled.

“Ambulances on queue”

The hospital tents are full, and there is a queue to see a doctor or nurse. The military has been deployed as extra medical personnel, but several ambulances take people to hospital daily.

– The first evening was the inauguration, and afterwards there were ambulances in line because so many people had been injured, Klara French tells SVT.

Stomach sickness spreads at the scout camp

Stomach sickness is also spreading within the camp, and the lack of hand soap in the toilets does not help the problem.

The British scouts, about 4,000 youngsters, will leave the camp and check into hotels, reports BBC. Thunderstorms are expected to hit the region and due to the humidity it is felt to be warmer than 40 degrees.

“The Swedish contingent intends to continue participating in the Jamboree”, writes The Scouts in Sweden on its website. They continue: “We closely follow the development and well-being of our participants”.

South Korean authorities have promised to send air-conditioned buses to the camp and improve hygiene, among other things.

Over 40,000 scouts from 158 countries attend the camp.
