Diego Maradona always walked around with two watches.
In a nice story, Ronaldo Nazario explains why.
– Since then he never took them off, says Ronaldo according to the Mirror.
Two of the best footballers to ever walk the pitch are Diego Armando Maradona and Ronaldo Nazario (usually just referred to as “Ronaldo”, alternatively “old Ronaldo” or “real Ronaldo”).
Maradona & Ronaldo
Maradona was a very skilled striker on the pitch, but had a lot of trouble off the pitch. However, that did not stop him from being a beloved player and person, especially in his native Argentina. Ronaldo was also loved, especially at home in Brazil. But also universal, as he didn’t deal with the same fluff as Maradona.

Despite Maradona and Ronaldo being from the highly rival countries of Argentina and Brazil, the former footballers became good friends. When Maradona tragically passed away aged 60 in November 2020, it took a heavy toll on Ronaldo.
– Diego left an incredible legacy in football. His death is very hard to accept. The news surprised me and made me very sad. I want to send my love to his family. He changed so many people’s lives and I will always be eternally grateful for the inspiration he gave me, Ronaldo said at a press conference shortly after Maradona’s death, according to the Mirror.
Nice story
During his lifetime, Diego Maradona was seen wearing two watches, one on each wrist. It was first rumored that it was only when the Argentine traveled that he had two watches, to have both the time in Argentina and the city he was in. However, Ronaldo explained that this was not the case.
– One of the first times he came to see me in Madrid, we had dinner. Diego took two watches with him and the legend said that he didn’t go anywhere without the two watches. “I asked him why he was wearing two, and he said his daughter had given them to him as a present, and since then he had never taken them off,” Ronaldo said, according to the English site.

But the wonderful story did not end there.
– Towards the end of the dinner, he took one off and gave it to me as a present. I didn’t want to accept it, but he got angry and I had no choice. I will look for it for the rest of my life as a reminder of his generosity and friendship, Ronaldo said of the icon Diego Maradona.
