JCS spokesman Colonel Lee Sung-jun stated in his statement on the subject that the DMZ is covered with grass and bushes, so it may be difficult to see the border sign. Noting that North Korean soldiers were working on an unknown mission within the DMZ before the incident, Lee said that it was considered that North Korean soldiers crossed the border by mistake.
