The tensions that have been escalating between South Korea and North Korea in recent days have spread to the border line this time. In the statement made by the South Korean General Staff (JCS), it was reported that approximately 20 North Korean soldiers crossed the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) located within the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) at around 12.30 local time on Sunday.
NORTH KOREAN SOLDIERS RETURNED RUSHLY
Following the development, it was stated that South Korean soldiers opened warning shots, while North Korean soldiers withdrew to their own country’s borders a short time later.
“WE THINK IT IS A MISTAKE”
JCS spokesman Colonel Lee Sung-jun stated in his statement on the subject that the DMZ is covered with grass and bushes, so it may be difficult to see the border sign. Noting that North Korean soldiers were working on an unknown mission within the DMZ before the incident, Lee said that it was considered that North Korean soldiers crossed the border by mistake.
GARBAGE BALLOONS INCREASED TENSION
North Korea sent more than a thousand balloons carrying garbage to South Korea’s border regions, escalating tensions in the region, and the Seoul administration completely suspended the agreement to reduce military tensions signed with North Korea in 2018 in retaliation against Pyongyang.
Finally, it was revealed to the public that South Korea had reinstalled giant speakers broadcasting propaganda against North Korea in the border region.
