Over 1,000 people gathered at Stortorget in Malmö to raise their voices against reporting undocumented people, and there were representatives from, among others, the Teachers’ Union, the Healthcare Union and the Individuals’ Association.
– As a child nurse, it goes against my entire code of ethics, and my whole mother’s heart to report a child who is undocumented, says Malin Tillgren, chairman of the care association in Skåne.
Political leadership in Skåne critical
The Regional Board of Skåne believes that the bill should have an exception for healthcare staff, especially in emergency care.
– People should not avoid seeking the care they need, this can lead to the need for more demanding healthcare in the long run. For humanitarian reasons, there should be no requirement for healthcare providers, says Gilbert Tribo (L), vice chairman of the Regional Board.
The municipal management in Malmö is also against the proposal.
The proposal is under investigation and the question of whether there should be an exception for staff in schools and care divides the parties.
