Authorities have said goodbye, but healthcare keeps the fax machine alive.

Around 4,000 healthcare fax machines are in use, most in the big cities. The work on transitioning to a joint service for secure digital communication is not over, reports Sjukhusläkaren, which received information from 19 regions.

– Once it is in place, the regions will be able to phase out their faxes and send e-mails, says Viktoria Hagelstedt, head of department at the Agency for Digital Management (Digg).
