Effective immediately, the program will only be available to the following groups of residents: those eligible for COVID-19 treatment including people who are immunocompromised; 65-years of age or older; those with high risk medical conditions; people in high-risk and some congregate living settings including long-term care homes and other specific populations to support outbreak prevention and management.
People who are immunocompromised have difficulty fighting infections and other diseases because of a weakened immune system.
Public health officials announced the update Wednesday.
Meanwhile, rapid antigen tests are no longer available to distribute to the public at the health unit.
Residents in the high risk category and who are eligible should speak to their health care provider or pharmacy for treatment to develop a plan in advance, public health officials say.
