Health unit reports 100th COVID-19 death

Local COVID 19 death toll hits 108

The Haldimand Norfolk Health Unit reported Wednesday two new COVID-19 deaths, bringing the total number of fatalities to 100 since the start of the pandemic in March of 2020.

One of the deaths was a COVID-19 caused death while the other was a COVID-19 contributing death.

The HNHU does not release details on specific deaths.

The following is other information released on Wednesday by the health unit (with last week’s information in brackets).

Hospitalizations

  • Three people hospitalized for COVID-19 at one of the area’s three local hospitals (18)

COVID-19 cases

  • 81 confirmed COVID-19 cases over the past week (86)

Influenza cases

  • Zero confirmed cases of influenza, zero people hospitalized with influenza, zero people in an ICU with influenza, zero people admitted to hospital for influenza, zero influenza caused or related deaths (2, 0, 0, 0)

Outbreaks

  • Two ongoing COVID-19 outbreaks, zero ongoing influenza outbreaks, one non-COVID/non-influenza outbreak (5, 0, 2). Outbreak locations: two long-term care homes, one other congregate setting

Vaccination clinics

  • Thursday, Caledonia Library, 11 am to 4:45 pm
  • Friday, HNHU Simcoe office, 9 am to 11:30 pm and 1 pm to 3:45 pm
  • Saturday, Hagersville No Frills (GOVAXX bus), 10 am to 5 pm

Those who can’t get to a vaccine clinic can call 519-427-5903 to request free transportation.

There is also a homebound service for individuals who have difficulty leaving their homes. This program involves two healthcare professionals visiting homes and administering first and second doses in Haldimand and Norfolk.
