Health, the GP arrives for the homeless

(Finance) – Soon also the tramp they will be able to have a general practitioner, despite not having a fixed abode. This is provided for by a bill signed by the Democrats and approved unanimously House of Representatives.

“Not only this law restores the full right to treatment to tens of thousands of people, who will finally know that the State has not abandoned them. And that it is possible to emerge from a fragile condition”, declared the author of the proposed law, Democratic MP Marco Furfaro, adding “today politics manages to give the most beautiful image of itself, the one that changes people’s lives for the better”.

One is expected allocation of 1 million euros for 2025 and 2026 to ensure basic health care for all homeless people.

The provision, which consists of only three articles, fixes a flaw in the welfare system, aligning itself with the constitutional principles of the right to equality (Article 3) and the right to health (article 32). Currently, anyone who is not registered in the registry also loses the right to healthcare, with the exception of emergency room assistance. The problem does not only concern homeless people, but also vulnerable individuals, such as separated fathers of families, who find themselves living in cars, or women who are victims of violence, who run away from home and go to live with friends, or more generally people who they lose their jobs and end up sleeping on the streets.
