The day after the knife attack at Munktellarenan in Eskilstuna, where four high school students were injured and many became witnesses, the municipality has gone into emergency mode. Psychologists, counselors and staff from social services have been called in to provide support.

Lisa Edholm at the children and education administration in Eskilstuna tells P4 Sörmland that the municipality has mobilized the common resources within the municipality.

– We will be well staffed. Regardless of how unimaginable an event like this is from the child’s and student’s perspective, it is important that we maintain as normal an everyday life as possible.

It was in connection with an outdoor day where about 80 students in grade nine participated that a fight started at the arena and four students aged 15 were stabbed.

– This makes me scared, shocked and pissed off. Now we sit in staff mode and meet several times an hour and try to be effective, but you also start to reflect on tomorrow and future measures, how we can work forward to ensure safety and security in all the schools in the municipality, says the head of children – and the education administration, Lina Axelsson Kihlblom, to P4 Sörmland.

Region Sörmland announced on Thursday afternoon that two of the boys were described as “more seriously injured”, and the other two boys as “less seriously injured”. However, the state of health of the four is stable, according to the region.

Three boys, between 15 and 17 years old, were arrested and detained later in the evening on suspicion of attempted murder.
