Last year, 49 police reports were made regarding vandalism at Läggesta station. This includes, among other things, stones being thrown at trains, broken bicycle sheds and car owners who had their tires slashed. The suspects are believed to be young people, according to security manager Patrik Jarenius.
– We have received the names of the perpetrators, he says.
The damage has cost the municipality over one million kroner. The final straw for Jarenius was when he himself saw masked youths on the platform in Läggesta last week.
The boss received threats and hatred
Later in the evening, he published several pictures of a group of young people that he had taken himself and that he believed were responsible for the vandalism. The post was widely circulated and when the municipality found out, Jarenius was asked to delete the post. This is because it is against the municipality’s policy to share pictures of minors and point them out as suspected criminals.
Now his boss has received threats and hate online after she said that his actions were wrong.
– I made a deliberate departure from the municipality’s communication policy. It was my fault and she is absolutely right when she comes out and comments on my wrong behaviour, he says.
More active cameras at the station
During the next week, the camera surveillance at the station will be reviewed and mobile cameras will be moved around after having had problems with stone throwing at trains for a long time.
– I hope this has come to an end, he says.
