Tom Hanks and Emma Watson in The Circle
The Circle is based on the novel of the same name by author Dave Eggers (including the script for Where the Wild Things Are). In the opinion of many critics, the adaptation could not hold a candle to the celebrated original. Many criticized a lack of originality and a boring dramaturgy (via Metacritic).
CinemaBlend even considered the film’s expression of criticism of technology to be highly arrogant and wrote:
It’s arrogant, condescending and passes without incident. The Circle is the reason people hate Hollywood.
We hope that most viewers will leave Emma Watson out of their dislike.
