According to a White House official speaking to Reuters news agency, then-elected Vice President and California Senator Harris was evacuated from the headquarters of the Democratic Party National Committee after police found the explosive.
The US Secret Service, which is responsible for the security of Vice President Harris, has not yet responded to Reuters news agency’s request for comment on the matter.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has since been searching for a suspect, wearing a gray hoodie, who they believe planted an explosive device in the park next to the Democratic Party National Committee and a bank in the street behind the Republican National Committee. Authorities believe the explosives were planted the night before January 6.
