Two years ago, a new film that continues the story of Rey Skywalker – with Daisy Ridley in the leading role was announced two years ago. In addition, Sharmen Obaid-Chinoy was announced as a director. Everything seemed as if the filming can start at any moment. But there was a problem: the film had no finished, let alone a half -finished script.
Three screenwriters, namely Damon Lindelof, Justin Britt-Gibson and Steven Knight, have tried in recent months to put the perfect story on paper for the project, which is common under the working title. So far, no Lucas film has been able to convince, so now Screenwriter number 4 At the work is: George Nolfi is said to save the Rey film, which is sacked in the development hell.
The new screenwriter of the Rey film understood the Star Wars films by George Lucas exactly
When the news of Noflis Star Wars engagement made the round last week, not all fans were optimistic that the project really took a step forward this time. Some looked skeptically at the author’s filmography: What predestined Nolfi of all things to write the Rey film?
A week later, at least part of this skepticism should be followed. Because Nolfi has proven in a new interview with Film Stories that he definitely has a clue. Not only from Star Wars, but especially from the Star Wars that George Lucas brought to the cinema with the original and the Prequel trilogy. In the interview he tells:
I go [bei dem Rey-Film] So that I look at what was in front of me and what the big ideas you want to implement – i.e. Lucasfilm, Disney, Sharmen [Obaid-Chinoy]the director. Then you do what a screenwriter does and tries to to put together individual parts of a story. You try to imagine characters, and then you present it with the understanding that it naturally has to honor a long, incredible tradition.
This long tradition attributes until 1977 when George Lucas brought the first part of the Skywalker saga to the big screen with war of the stars. But what distinguishes Lucas’ Star Wars? Nolfi goes into detail:
If you think of George Lucas, the six films he made and the universe he created very strongly penetrated from political ideas. It is not about today, but there is, for example, the Naziiness of the Empire or the Roman Empire.
Nolfi explains:
The democracy of the Roman Empire, which collapses and becomes an empire, and the constant history of People who organize themselves and fight against chaosand then the tools that help human societies will contain the chaos for oppression.
He also adds:
That is the core of what George Lucas wanted to say in my opinion. And one of the wonderful things on science fiction and Star Wars-which is more science fantasy or a space opera-is that you can address the deepest topicswithout it feels like a philosophy or political science course or like something that I read in the newspaper today … it can be about real things, for profound things.
The fact that Nolfi appreciates the political facets of the Star Wars films shouldn’t be a surprise. In his sci-fi thriller the plan, he tells a love story in a claustrophobic, almost dystopian frame. He was also involved in the Bourne Ultimatum-together with Tony Gilroy, who initiated one of the most political Star Wars projects with Andor.
Star Wars return: When does the Rey film start in the cinema?
At the announcement of the film, many fans hoped that we may already see Daisy Ridley’s return as a Rey Skywalker on the big screen in December 2026. At the moment it looks more like the film comes At the earliest in December 2027 to the cinema. We will most likely get an update to the latest plans at the Star Wars Celebration in April.
