While one month has passed in Russia’s intervention in Ukraine, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations (UN) Sergiy Kyslytsya stated that they will not accept the demands of the Moscow administration for the Crimea and Donbas. “This would be a political suicide. Not possible.” said. Expressing that they estimated that Russia lost more than 17 thousand soldiers in Ukraine, Kyslytsya said, “Dead Russian soldiers are all over Ukraine and I regret to say it, but they are now biohazardous because the Russians don’t want to collect the bodies, they probably don’t know what to do with the bodies, they don’t want to take them back to the country because they have so many casualties.” made the statement.
THANKS TO PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN
Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) Sergiy Kyslytsya answered questions about Russia’s war against Ukraine since February 24. Kyslytsya, who thanked Turkey and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for their mediation role, said, “I don’t believe there are leaders other than Erdogan who are willing to devote so much personal time and effort.”
Kyslytsya said, “We do not expect anything from Turkey that would contradict Turkey’s national interests, and a free, peaceful and prosperous Ukraine would be in Turkey’s national interest. There are many reasons why we love Turkey. I think our friendship will have a very prosperous and successful future.”
“REPOSITION OF THE RETRACTION UNITS”
Noting that the bombing and Russian rockets continue to hit civilian targets in Ukraine, contrary to Russia’s rhetoric, Kyslytsya said, “To me, what the Russians call a withdrawal seems like a repositioning of the troops.”
“RUSSIA WILL DEFINITELY BE DEFEATED IN UKRAINE”
Stating that Russia has lost its credibility, Kyslytsya said that he does not believe that Moscow wants a diplomatic solution.
Kyslytsya said, “If Russia wants to mitigate the damage it has done to Russia, which it will suffer for many years to come, it must pull itself together at the negotiating table and be serious because Russia will undoubtedly be defeated in Ukraine. Otherwise, it will be a country that is isolated on a global scale and ignored.”
“THEY DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THE BODY”
Expressing that Ukraine will not surrender and will fight to the end, Kyslytsya made the following assessment regarding Russia’s focus on Donbas and the allegations that it is turning to Syrian mercenaries:
“This debunks the myth that the Russian army is the second largest in the world. In less than a month, they suffered more military losses than the Soviet Union lost in the Afghan campaign. We estimate that more than 17 thousand soldiers were lost. The dead Russian soldiers are all over Ukraine and I regret to say that but they are now biohazardous because the Russians don’t want to collect the bodies, they probably don’t know what to do with the bodies, they don’t want to take them back to the country because they have so many casualties. From a humanitarian point of view, it is unbelievable because they deserve to be buried with honor and by their families, even if they are enemies.”
“THIS WOULD BE A POLITICAL SUICIDE”
As for whether Russia’s Crimean and Donbas demands will be the subject of negotiation, Kyslytsya said, “This would be a political suicide. It’s not possible,” he said.
“NOT EVEN SUITABLE TO BE A MEMBER”
Saying that more than 50 countries at the United Nations want Russia’s role, place and powers in the organization to be reviewed, Kyslytsya said, “Article 4 of the UN Convention states that UN membership is open to all peace-loving countries. A country that wages such a war and does not like peace is not suitable for membership, let alone being a veto power.
Kyslytsya said that “Russia should also be removed from the UN Human Rights Council until it becomes a democratic country.
Stating that the sanctions against Russia are working, Kyslytsya said, “More sanctions should be applied against Putin and his supporters.”
Evaluating Europe’s dependence on Russian gas, Kyslytsya said, “They are at the point of realizing that it is in their national interest to become independent from Russian energy sources.”
“HE’S BLUFFING MORE ABOUT NUCLEAR MISSILES”
Regarding the concerns about the possibility of Russia using nuclear weapons, Kyslytsya said:
“Everyone in the world should be concerned about nuclear war and no one wants it to happen. I don’t know if there will be a nuclear war or not, but this should not be simplified as a nuclear missile flying over Europe as a result of Putin pressing the button. Putin is bluffing more about nuclear missiles. Our main concern is Russia’s takeover of nuclear power plants in Ukraine. If something terrible happens in Zaporizhia, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, then all of Europe will be covered in nuclear dust, which is 10 times more dangerous than the Chernobyl nuclear accident in 1986.
Saying that Ukraine needs more weapons and that it would be in its own interest for NATO, which cannot defend Ukraine, to provide weapons to Ukraine, Kyslytsya said, “If Ukraine does not defend itself, Russia’s next target will be a NATO country.”
REQUEST FOR ASSURANCE FROM THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY
Stating that they wanted assurance from the international community that what happened today will never happen again, Kyslytsya said:
“We want to be absolutely certain that if the war ends and we rebuild our country, our roads, our hospitals, our infrastructure, it won’t happen again in 10 years.”
Kyslytsya, who likened Putin to “a poisonous mold that will not go away no matter how much it is painted,” said that “Russia should be rid of the evil dictatorship and the Russians should be given a chance to build a democratic country”.
