Rickard did not receive the occupational pension from SJ

The train driver Richard namely discovered that his employer, state-owned SJ, failed to pay occupational pension while he was working extra shifts during the holidays, writes the newspaper Arbetet.

And Rickard believes that he is far from the only one who has pension money to reclaim from SJ.

– I think there are many people who are entitled to quite large amounts, he tells the newspaper.

In February 2023, he was told by a colleague that SJ had not paid occupational pension for the overtime pay, which according to Rickard could vary all the way up to SEK 7,500 per day.

Then SJ would pay 30 percent in occupational pension

To the newspaper The work Rickard explains that he has the occupational pension agreement ITP 1 and that his employer must pay 4.5 percent of the salary into the occupational pension. In some months, however, he had earned over SEK 47,600 and then SJ must have paid in a full 30 percent of the amount that exceeds that sum, which had been missed.

– It’s a lot of money, I just thought it would be a few hundred Norwegian kroner here or there.

SJ paid SEK 56,600

After being denied the money, when SJ’s payroll office considered that the supplements were not pensionable, he requested a correction via Collectum. After some time, the ITP board came to the conclusion that Rickard was right and that SJ would compensate him for what they owed.

In July 2024, SEK 56,600 was therefore transferred to his occupational pension.

– I got it approved without hesitation, based on the numbers I submitted.
