Ray Stevenson is dead. The British actor died today, May 22, 2023, died in a hospital in Italy. As reported by several Italian media (including Sky tg24), he was admitted there due to an illness. Stevenson was on the island of Ischia for filming.

Stevenseon was born on May 25, 1964 in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. He was the son of a British pilot and an Irish mother. Before he discovered acting for himself, he worked as an interior designer. It was only at the age of 27 that he studied acting at the Bristol Old Vic Theater School, which was followed by his first film and television roles.

In 1993 he starred in the long-running television series Guide to adultery for the first time in front of the camera. It would be ten years before he made a name for himself in Hollywood and was cast for larger projects. He has acted in fantasy blockbusters such as King Arthur (2004) and The Three Musketeers (2011).

He also ventured into the sci-fi genre. In The Book of Eli (2010) he explored a post-apocalyptic world before his Entry into the divergent series followed. Stevenson took over the part of Marcus Eaton in all three parts (The Destiny – Divergent, The Destiny – Insurgent and The Destiny – Allegiant).

His first Marvel encounter took place in 2008’s Punisher: War Zone, where he played the eponymous anti-hero. In 2011 he started in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His Volstagg appears in Thor as well as Thor 2: The Dark Kingdom and Thor 3: Day of Decision. However, he achieved his greatest successes on television.

on the HBO series Rome and took on a recurring role in season 7 of Dexter. In addition, he caused fear and terror in Black Sails as the legendary pirate captain Blackbeard. He had other roles in Vikings and The Medici – Rulers of Florence.
