When Casio Dahir was 13 years old, he was on his way into crime.
Today he has left that life behind him and instead works as a social educator to stop the criminals’ recruitment of children.
– If my story makes any difference to someone, I will be happy, says Casio Dahir in after five.
Casio Dahir’s criminal history began at the age of 13. He himself says that he then began to normalize certain things and committed crime. In after five, he tells us that what he carries with him gives him an understanding in his profession with young people today.
– You are looking for something. A belonging or belonging is something that often attracts. You are in a place where you look out and there is next to you. Then it is easy to pull it. An alienation, if you can say it.
The family became the way out of the crime
Thanks to Casio’s mother and sisters, he realized that the criminal life was not a life he wanted to live. He thus had a context that kept him away from it. Today, Casio has worked to be that context for young people for 11 years. He is a social educator and works to stop the recruitment of children into crime.
After several years of work with young people, many people contact Casio to tell them that they have gone well for them.
– I work a lot with relationship building, so it is for very preventive purposes. My work is very much about being there, walking around, talking and giving them this adult presence.
Nice greeting on TV
Casio’s job is, among other things, in school activities. There you make sure that young people who have a problem are in place and provide support to those who need.
During the interview in after five, Casio received a greeting from several of the young people he meets at work. In the film, they told us how important he is to them, which caused Casio to be noticeably moved.
– Wow! My young people. This is what you work for. That’s what makes me happy.
