It is not easy to impress Henrik Lundqvist.
But it is a sports star that the Swede really looks up to.
– He is incredibly talented, says Henrik Lundqvist.
There is no doubt that Henrik Lundqvist is one of Sweden’s best goalkeepers of all time. He is one of two, together with Pelle Lindbergh, who won the award for the NHL season’s best goaltender and has several championship medals with Tre Kronor.
Not easily impressed
But for some time now, Henrik Lundqvist has put the picking glove on the shelf. The Swede was discovered to have a heart defect and was forced to end his career after the 2019/20 season.
Since then, “The King”, as he is called in Rangers circles, has, among other things, acted as an expert in connection with New York Rangers matches and he was also an expert during the Olympics in Beijing earlier this year.
He had a long and successful career as one of the world’s best goalkeepers, and one of Sweden’s top athletes of all time. And with the sky-high level that Henrik Lundqvist held, he was certainly not easily impressed.
“Incredibly talented”
The Swede himself believes that he has not looked up to so many other athletes throughout his career. But there is one he really liked, and that is tennis pro Roger Federer.
“The last time I was “starstruck” was when I met Roger Federer. He is one of the few athletes I really look up to. Incredibly talented both on and off the court and a role model for the sport of tennis,” Henrik Lundqvist has said.
And we can really understand Henrik Lundqvist. With a mind-boggling 20 Grand Slam titles, Federer is one of tennis’ all-time greats, and has been absolutely superb throughout his career.
