Since the election in 2022, Sweden Democrats party leader Jimmie Åkesson has been present at six out of 80 votes in the Riksdag. This means that he is the party leader with the highest absence in the Riksdag, reports SVT.
Party leaders who do not hold ministerial positions do not sit in the Riksdag, but Åkesson’s absence of 92 percent can be compared with Magdalena Andersson (S) who has 59 percent absence from voting. Muharrem Demirok has 43 percent absenteeism and MP’s spokesmen Daniel Helldén and Amanda Lind have respectively 24 and 22 percent absenteeism during the time they were spokespeople.
In a comment to SVT, the Sweden Democrats write that Jimmie Åkesson as party leader has many other things he needs to attend to.
“We are a team, where we all cooperate and cover for each other. In order to be effective in the work, flexibility is required around the votes, especially for the party leader who alone carries several other important commitments for the party.”
