But one day in town, a camera crew captures him and after that his life will never be the same. During the interview, he tells about his darkest secret: “I am a virgin beyond all doubt.” The interview went viral, making him Japan’s most famous virgin – and he wouldn’t let it go. 3 years later, he has over 500,000 thousand on Youtube and a team that makes a living from his sexlessness. – He has leveraged this celebrity to build a career as a sexlessness comedian. That’s what researcher Peter Ueda says, who has lived with Gunpee in his studies on sexual inactivity. – He has now built even higher barriers around celibacy and there are many around him who expect him to be celibate, says Ueda. Sexlessness is on the rise – but incels are a minority Japan is the country in the world best at not having sex, but they are not alone. Sexlessness in the world is steadily increasing and according to Peter Ueda, it is the men who are affected the worst. – There is research showing that men who are out of a relationship have a greater chance of committing crimes, says Ueda. The proof of that is 22-year-old Eliot Rodgers, who murdered six people because he wanted to punish women. After the incident, he was hailed on obscure online forums as an incel hero. But even though the extreme type of sexless men gets a lot of space in the media, they are a minority: – If you look at the biggest incels forums, they have 10, 15, 20 thousand users, but there are millions of sexually inactive men .
