60-year-old Aykut İnler, who felt short of breath while bending and standing up to use the remote control, tying his shoes and similar situations, learned that he had “pulmonary hypertension” and his life has become completely different since that day. Pearls, who uses a bag to carry the artificial lung device with her 24 hours a day, said, “I didn’t know that breathing was so important. I carry my lung with me. This breathing is important to me, I have no other choice.”
HE STARTED TO FEEL IT WHEN MAKING SMALL MOVEMENTS
İnler, who lives in Ankara, applied to the health institution 3 years ago as a result of the decrease in oxygen that started in 2009. As a result of the examinations, İnler was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension.
Making a statement to the AA correspondent, Pearls stated that she started to experience shortness of breath with small movements and said, “I first noticed the difficulties I had in breathing when bending down and standing up to pick up the television remote control. Then, I was experiencing shortness of breath while tying my shoes, and I noticed shortness of breath with small movements. After the examinations, the diagnosis was made.” .” said.
İnceler explained that there is no cure for his disease and that medication is applied to delay its progression.
Stating that she has been carrying the artificial lung in her bag for 3 years to survive, Pearls stated that she had psychological difficulties at first because of people’s stares, but over time she got used to it.
“PLEASE DO NOT EARTH YOUR ORGANS”
Pearls said that many people need organs to live, so organ donation is of great importance.
Stating that he had to use the artificial lung device 24 hours a day, Pearls said:
“When it is not enough, I have larger support devices at home, I switch to them, I have to use them constantly. Since I have a problem with my heart, organ transplantation is not possible, but organs cannot be found for these patients.
Our people do not have this awareness. I wish people were born to be organ donors, and if they don’t want to be organ donors when they turn 18, they could decide then. Please do not soil your organs. One human being can save an average of 11 people with his organs. “Organ donation is very important for this disease, it is the only treatment.”
Pearls stated that his disease made his life difficult over time, that he was short of breath every time he moved and had difficulty walking.
Stating that the disease is progressing very quickly, Pearls said, “The disease is getting worse. Sometimes I cannot walk at all, I have to wait in a wheelchair at the hospital. I want to draw attention to organ donations, I push for the number of transplant centers to increase, some of them are closed. I wish there were a few more transplant centers. This disease can also be passed on through genes.” “There is nothing wrong with my children right now, but we are monitoring them too.” said.
“I CARRY MY LUNGS WITH ME”
Pearls emphasized that he understood how important oxygen is with the disease and continued his words as follows:
“Every breath we take is very important. I didn’t know that breathing was so important. Look, we are breathing, but we are not aware of it at all. I carry my lung with me. This breath is important to me. I have no other choice. Unfortunately, those who have not experienced it do not know how to carry their lung with them. I hope there will be awareness about organ donation, Please don’t waste your organs, donate them.”
“FINAL TREATMENT: LUNG TRANSPLANTATION”
Cardiology Specialist Prof. Dr. Serdar Kula noted that pulmonary hypertension is one of the most dangerous deadly diseases that are rare in the world and have no cure.
Noting that patients apply to health institutions with complaints such as shortness of breath, getting tired easily, swelling and bruising in the feet, Kula said:
“It is not a disease with a definitive cure, we have limited treatments. Lung transplantation is the ultimate treatment, and it is done to a limited extent in our country as well as all over the world. There is no age limit for the emergence of this disease, it can be seen from the newborn. This disease can be seen in any age group.” “This is the traumatic part, especially for parents. The child is healthy, has no health problems, and symptoms of the disease suddenly appear at any age.”
