An honest and revealing book about Sven-Göran Eriksson will be released next month.
Now it is revealed what the coaching icon himself chose to stop from participating.
– He has no problem with being tough, says publisher Olle Grundin.
Sweden’s greatest football coach of all time is dead. Sven-Göran Eriksson fell asleep on Monday, surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Värmland, after a period of illness. It was in January that Svennis announced that he had suffered from an incurable and fatal cancer.
The new book about Svennis
After the death, Sven-Göran Eriksson has been praised worldwide, and big clubs as well as profiles and world stars have sent their condolences. During his career, Sven-Göran Eriksson coached major clubs in Portugal, Italy and England, as well as several major national teams, and the imprint he left is enormous. Last week the documentary “Svennis” premiered on Amazon Prime Video, with stars such as David Beckham and Wayne Rooney as guests to tell what Svennis meant to their careers.
But in September, the book “A wonderful journey” about Svennis, a book he wrote together with his childhood friend Bengt Berg, will also be released. The work began already in 2021 and continued through Svennis’ illness, and in total there are hundreds of hours of conversations where Svennis talks about his life. He managed to read the book before he passed away.
– He was satisfied, if you can put it that way. “Svennis” received a script and we had time to send in the book, says Bengt Berg to Expressen.
“Have no problem being tough”
But the publisher Olle Grundin also says that Svennis was careful to stop some things that he did not want included. However, not to protect yourself.
– Mostly it has been about protecting other people, I feel. As for himself, I have not noticed that he would have had any limitations to talk about, says Olle Grundin and continues:
– In the book, he talks about the fact that there are certain people with whom he hasn’t gotten along quite well, not that he goes on any regular flings. But he has no problem being quite harsh in his judgment towards some.
Olle Grundin believes that the book is Svenni’s own story about his life, exactly as he himself wants to be perceived.
– What feels unique about this book is that it is “Svenni’s” own story as he himself wanted it to be told, he says.
