While dense fog frequently affects Edirne during these seasons, experts warned that it is more dangerous for those with chronic diseases to go out in foggy weather, and that the fog cloud becomes more dangerous if it comes into contact with polluted air.
Polluted and foggy air, which negatively affects daily life, can also harm health. Risks such as heart attack and stroke caused by air pollution may increase even more in foggy weather.
SPECIAL WARNING FOR CHRONIC PATIENTS
Due to the decrease in visibility, both drivers in traffic and citizens outside are negatively affected by foggy weather. Especially those with chronic diseases, pregnant women and babies need to be a little more careful in dirty and foggy weather. Trakya University Faculty of Medicine Department of Public Health Lecturer Prof. Dr. Galip Ekuklu warned against foggy weather and gave advice to citizens.
Prof. stated that heart, asthma, bronchitis and COPD patients should be more careful in foggy weather. Dr. Ekuklu pointed out that these patients should not go out during fog hours as much as possible. Stating that fog is an atmospheric phenomenon, Prof. Dr. Ekuklu stated that if there is air pollution along with fog in the geography you live in, this is a more breathable situation.
Prof. stated that citizens who have to go out and are in the risk group should reduce their activity during the hours when fog is effective. Dr. Ekuklu underlined that movements that increase the respiratory rate will pose a risk because they will increase breathing in the polluted air in that environment.
IF THE AIR IS DIRTY, IT BECOME MORE DIRTY
Prof. stated that geographically we live in a country where a significant part of the day is foggy. Dr. Ekuklu said, “Since the fog is effective at certain hours, I recommend that they do not go out unless it is necessary, and if they are going to do sports or activities, they should not do it at those hours. However, if there are inevitably working people and children going to school, the use of masks may be recommended at those hours. If there is air pollution in that area, with the fog, it will be more likely to fall on the ground.” “The health problems that may occur should be taken into consideration as it becomes closer and more breathable. If the air is polluted, fog becomes more dangerous. Being outside at those hours and avoiding intense exercises are among the main precautions that can be taken,” he said.
