Bridgerton is one of the most successful series in Netflix history. Nevertheless, the streaming service brings nothing when it comes to continuing the historical drama. On the contrary: two years of waiting are between every season. This ensures that the series keeps its high level in production.

For fans, who are eagerly awaiting the start of the Season 4. of Bridgerton, this also means that this year we will not return to the London of the 19th century and experience the gossip of the ball season. Therefore, we looked at what Netflix offers in the meantime as a streaming alternative.

The story goes back to the novel of the same name by Louisa May Alcott, which was first published in two parts in 1868 and 1869. The film films have been published over time. The Little Women adaptation, which we want to recommend to you today, comes from Barbie director Greta Gerwig from 2019.

The film tells of the life of the four sisters Jo (Saoirse Ronan), Meg (Emma Watson), Amy (Florence Pugh) and Beth (Eliza Scanlen), who could grow up in Massachusetts during the American civil war and could hardly be different. The potential for conflict in March is obvious.

The read Jo meets the upset Amy, while Meg cannot expect to finally indulge in a life in conventions, and Beth tries to find their place between all these different fronts. And then things like love and jealousy come into play that make living together more complicated.

Little Women comes up with at least as many feelings as Bridgerton, if not more

Gerwig, who also wrote the script, brings great enthusiasm and love for each of the four characters in the center of the film, regardless of whether they are holding together or arguing. Little Women finds in the inconspicuous everyday life of the sisters touching coming-of-age stories-embedded in a detailed production design.

As soon as you enter the world of Gerwig’s film, you understand why the template applies as such a timeless classic. The wishes, dreams and longings of the characters become tangible in beautiful landscapes, which work as if they had come from a dreamy painting – each brush stroke a new frame.

Sometimes the film feels as if we follow a dance that is made up of the dreamy 35 mm pictures by Yorick Le Saux, the elegant cut by Nick Houy and the playful and playful music by Alexandre Desplat, while Gerwig tried the possibilities of filmmaking as curiously and enthusiastically as Jo the possibilities of writing.

Little Women does not penetrate as much gossip as we are used to from Bridgerton. But if you are looking for a really strong film that comes up with a lot of empathy for the part hidden, partly bubbling feelings of his characters, Gerwig’s Alcott adaptation should also make very happy.
