He expanded a dead series into a billion-dollar franchise

Jumanji was one of the most popular 90s fantasy adventure films and grossed over $260 million, according to The Numbers. The successor Zathura – An Adventure in Space tells of another board game journey in space, but couldn’t even recoup the production costs. Maybe that’s why the franchise lay dormant for so long.

Only in 2017, that is 21 years after the first part, the series continued with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. The remake with Dwayne Johnson grossed almost a billion (via The Numbers) and is on TV today.

That’s what Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle with Dwayne Johnson is about

When four high school students are in detention, their boring afternoon suddenly turns into an unforgettable adventure when they find a video game that draws the teenagers into its world. Suddenly they can be found in the bodies of the game characters again, including the muscular Dr. Smolder Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson), his slight sidekick Moose Finbar (Kevin Hart), the fighting Amazon Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan) and the well-read professor Shelly Oberon (Jack Black). Together they must overcome the game’s many challenges if they want to return to their world.

The Stars of Jumnji: Welcome to the Jungle

The great Jumnji universe continues

The remake brings back the jungle world, but otherwise does not refer to the plot and characters from the original film. Reference was only made to the board game that drew the children into adventure in the 1996 film.

In 2019, Jumanji: The Next Level, a direct sequel to the second part, was released. But that’s not enough, because… Part 4 is definitely being planned, as Screen Rant reports. In addition to Johnson, who will soon be heard in the sequel to the fantasy film Moana, the other main actors will also return to the set. According to speculation, the plot could revolve around the fact that it is the Video game characters come into the real world.
