Why didn’t Charlie Sheen return for the series finale?
Charlie Sheen himself decided to do itnot to return for the Two and a Half Men finale. The team around series creator Chuck Lorre had offered him to slip into Charlie Harper’s role one last time. That would certainly have made for a more coherent ending.
However, Sheen declined because he didn’t like the planned death scene with the falling piano. Instead, he advocated rewriting the scene to set up Charlie’s return in a spin-off. Chuck Lorre’s team rejected this in turn.
There no agreement was reached, the final finally had to do without Sheen’s comeback. Instead, Lorre’s team resorted to the emergency solution of animating Charlie Harper, filling him with a double and only showing him from behind.
