Alex Schneiter, former CEO of Lundin Oil, was indicted together with the company’s former chairman of the board Ian Lundin last November for aiding and abetting gross violations of international law in Sudan in the years 1999–2003. Alex Schneiter is neither a Swedish citizen nor resident in Sweden, which is why his defenders considered that the indictment should be dismissed as they claimed that the Swedish court lacks legal authority to try the indictment against him. But now the Supreme Court has stated that the Swedish court has the right to try the prosecution also against Schneiter.
In the past, the defense’s request has been rejected both in the district court and the court of appeal. HD decided in June this year to grant leave to appeal in the matter.
Both Alex Schneiter and Ian Lundin deny wrongdoing.
