However, HBO already has The Last of Us an alternative for fans of apocalyptic end-time scenarios with the undead in the starting blocks. And that could not only be the better The Walking Dead, but also comes faster than expected.

The Last of Us follows grumpy smuggler Joel (Pedro Pascal) who… 20 years after the outbreak of a mysterious infection swinging from one job to the next more badly than right. When he gets the job of escorting teenage girl Ellie (Bella Ramsey) to the headquarters of a rebel organization, he reluctantly accepts. The series is based on the Naughty Dog video game series of the same name, which is considered a narrative masterpiece. Fans of the games are all the more excited about an official start date for the series adaptation. Now HBO Max seems to have (involuntarily?) revealed the date from which the first episode of season 1 can be seen: January 15, 2023. Several Twitter users shared screenshots in which the date suddenly appeared under the first teaser for The Last of Us.

This information has not yet been officially confirmed by HBO, but the date does not seem unlikely. Finally, the streaming giant also featured scenes from The Last of Us in its latest highlight teaser on “upcoming” series. Season 4 of Succession, which is also part of the teaser, has already been confirmed for spring 2023. A January start of the zombie series sounds realistic.
