Having your teeth in this state does not only affect

Having poor dental health can do more harm to your health than many realize. A number of studies have found how gum disease increases a person’s risk of heart problems, including heart disease. Now, new research has linked this to an increased risk of dementia.

As the number of people who miss out on difficult and expensive dental appointments increases, there is concern that the cognitive disturbances caused by dental disease will increase over time.

INCREASES THE RISK OF DEMENTATION AND DEMENTATION

Not taking good care of your teeth increases your risk of several serious health problems. A new study has found a strong link between poor dental health, including tooth loss, and dementia. The study, published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, further analyzed 47 studies to come to this conclusion.

It found that poor dental health and dental disease were associated with a 23% increased risk of cognitive decline, including the risk of dementia. It also found that tooth loss alone was linked to a 23% higher probability of cognitive decline and a 13% higher risk of dementia.

The authors of the study published a statement. “From a clinical perspective, our findings highlight the importance of monitoring and managing periodontal health in the context of dementia prevention, although the available evidence is not yet sufficient to point to clear ways and the most effective methods for early identification of individuals at risk,” the study’s authors wrote in the statement.

BAD DENTAL HEALTH DUE TO HEART DISEASE

“Gum disease (periodontitis) is associated with an increased risk of developing heart disease,” says the Mayo Clinic. The health site added: “Poor dental health increases the risk of bacterial infections in the bloodstream that can affect heart valves. Oral health can be especially important if you have artificial heart valves.” says.
