The New Blood FPS Trilogy – Bloody Retro Fest
First of all, you should know – the games are designed for retro through and through and offer a corresponding look. Amid Evil does offer ray tracing, but the look of all 3 games is clearly reminiscent of the first 3D shooters of the 90s.
DUSK is the only game in the trilogy that offers multiplayer.
The game is very reminiscent of Raven Software’s Witches series. It’s a fantasy FPS in which you use different magical actions and weapons to pixelate your opponents. Brutal hand-to-hand combat is also part of the show.
You play through 7 episodes and at the end there is always a boss with special mechanics. Reviews praise the level design, the retro feel and affectionately call Amid Evil a “boomer shooter”.
DUSK also comes with a very gory approach and at first glance reminds of a hellish mixture of Quake and Serious Sam. It’s inspired by “Doom, Quake, Blood, Heretic, Hexen, Half-Life, Redneck Rampage and all your 90’s favourites”.
In 3 campaign levels you slaughter your way through the cultists and dark powers and you can also compete against other players in a multiplayer arena. There’s also an endless Horde mode for the ultimate challenge.
The last shooter of the trilogy is currently still in Early Access. ULTRAKILL sees itself as a cross between the retro hits Doom and Quake, but with the character of an action game like Devil May Cry. A combo system reminiscent of Bulletstorm provides even more excitement.
In the story you go through the circles of hell. After humanity has been wiped out, only machines that need blood for fuel remain and look to hell for supplies.
