“Haven’t gone my way”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Stina Nilsson is done with her third season as a biathlete.
The hardest so far for the Swede, who has had to fight hard.
Now she opens up about the difficult year that she wants to put behind her.

It was almost exactly three years ago that Stina Nilsson shocked the entire skiing world. As the reigning world champion and Olympic champion, she made the decision to leave cross-country skiing entirely and change her sport to biathlon.

Nilsson’s career

The first season was mostly a learning season for the Swede, who got to feel the hot air directly with competitions in the IBU Cup, the level below the World Cup. After a growing form curve in the spring, the Swede also got the chance to make her debut at the World Cup in March 2021.

The second season was significantly better when she was moved up to the World Cup in earnest and became part of the Swedish national biathlon team. Stina was also selected for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing and achieved her very first World Cup podium, with a very strong third place in a sprint race.

In connection with the SM this weekend, her season came to an end and it has been a very tough time that has been marred by many disappointments. The Swede has had to struggle hard with both skiing and shooting, and the worst was when, after a series of weak results, she was kicked from both the World Cup and Biathlon World Cup.
