It is common for fraudsters to use familiar and popular company names to instill confidence in their victim. In the past, among others, DHL, the Postal Code Lottery and Vattenfall have been used to deceive fraud victims.

It is also not unusual for fraudsters to pretend to be contacted by debt collection companies with the threat of sending a non-existent invoice to the Swedish Bailiff, with the aim of stressing the recipient.

One of the victims of this type of fraud was Jonas46. In an interview with News24 he tells about when he received a text message and immediately became stressed.

– In short: They managed to blow me, despite my knowledge of just such things, he then told Nyheter24.

Message from Netflix is ​​scam

“Your last payment was declined,” says a new text message that is rampant.

A reader of the newspaper Råd och rön wants to warn others about this SMS. The message should appear to come from Netflix, as the sender is written as “NETFLIX” in capital letters.

This is in fact a scam. The text message reads: “Confirm your payment information or will be suspended”. Then follows a link, whose domain does not appear to belong to Netflix themselves.

In the message there is a fake link that does not lead to Netflix, write the newspaper.

That way you avoid being exposed

The police have several tips on their website on how to avoid fraud. Some of these are as follows:

  • Never give out account details either over the phone or during a visit.
  • Never hand over your bank card and code to another person.
  • Never let an unfamiliar person in without checking their credentials.
  • Dare to be awkward.
  • Feel free to report it to the police so the police get an idea of ​​the scope.
