Have you eaten too many nuts? Then you can have a heart attack

Have you eaten too many nuts Then you can have

Nuts are a food that has become increasingly popular to eat, either as is or by including them in cooking.

It can be advantageously used in everything from salads to making nut paste or an Asian dish containing nuts.

There are several benefits to eating both nuts and seeds. They contain important substances for you and your body such as fats, protein, magnesium, zinc, copper, potassium, iron and much more.

But the fact is that in some cases it is necessary to think about how big your intake of nuts in particular is. Too much can cause poisoning.

Then you can be poisoned – you should think about that

Brazil nuts and pistachios are often sold in larger packages. But the fact is that if you eat too much of them, you can “overdose” and become poisoned.

The Swedish Food Agency warns about this on its website. There they state that nuts are indeed healthy and often contain healthy fats and other vitamins and antioxidants, but that in too large doses they can have a negative effect on health.

“Sometimes nuts, especially brazil nuts and pistachios, can contain the mold poison aflatoxin. Aflatoxin can, among other things, increase the risk of liver cancer. But the risk of eating a couple of tablespoons of nuts a day is considered to be very small. However, of course you shouldn’t eat nuts that taste bad.”, writes The Swedish Food Agency about the nuts.

Too many brazil nuts can cause a heart attack

According to the health food site Gokindly brazil nuts in particular also contain high levels of selenium, which can cause poisoning. In order not to risk experiencing it, you should therefore not eat more than one to three Brazil nuts per day.

“For example, if you were to eat 50 brazil nuts in one go, you could be poisoned by it. This would correspond to about 5,000 micrograms of selenium,” writes Axelsson Institute about the risks.

Should you ingest too many, you will get selenosis, which can cause breathing problems, kidney failure and heart attack, they say.

When it comes to pistachios, it is actually the nut that is the most common to contain aflatoxins, which are mycotoxins that can cause hepatotoxic effects, i.e. damage to the liver.

Therefore, you should not eat “more than a couple of tablespoons per day”, according to the Swedish Food Agency.
