Have you been storing bread wrong all your life Here

In the survey “The Bread Thermometer” from 2024, carried out by United Minds on behalf of the Bread Institute and based on 1,003 interviews with Swedes aged 18 to 80, it turned out that more and more people eat bread every day.

The survey also showed that a whopping 93 percent of residents in Sweden eat bread at least twice a week or more frequently than that.

Do not store the bread in the refrigerator

Many people think that bread, like many other types of food, should be stored at lower temperatures. But that’s not a good idea.

“Bread is best stored at room temperature, not in the refrigerator. Soft bread quickly becomes crumbly and dry in the refrigerator,” writes The Swedish Food Agency on its website.

And the baker and the TV profile Sebastien Boudet agree with.

– I would not recommend storing bread in the refrigerator. The bread becomes like a sponge. It absorbs all the smells and tastes that are around. Real bread baked on sourdough lasts a very long time and never needs to end up in the fridge, he says News24.

Sebastien Boudet: “It keeps the bread fresh”

But how should you store your bread for the best shelf life?

– I think the best way to store bread is to put it in a cloth/beeswax bag. It keeps the bread fresh and of course there is a lot of plastic, says Sebastien Boudet and continues:

– If the bread starts to get a little old, I would slice it and put it in the freezer.
