It happened to the record change • Leo “Chinese” Carmona tells in TV4 News Story

On July 12, 2002, three robbers stormed out of a car on the runway at Arlanda. During gun threats and gunfire, they forced money from the shocked guards. The change they got with them was record -breaking – SEK 44 million.

Leo Carmona, the founder of the hip hop group Kartellen and according to his own statement the brain behind the coup, reveals in TV4 News Story Details about how the robbery was planned and implemented with the help of an insider.

For several months the group prepared the robbery and provided SAS uniforms and access cards

– We could move freely at Arlanda, check out different escape routes and took time with a timer. We planned everything in detail, says Leo Carmona.

Conflict led to murder

After the robbery, a conflict arose between Carmona and a friend about the prey. The friend contacted the police and told him that he and his family were threatened and that he had information about the robbery.

The man was murdered in Helsinki in the fall of 2003. The body is never found, but among other things DNA traces made it any trial anyway. On April 1, 2005, three years after the Arlanda, Leo Carmona was sentenced to life imprisonment for instigating the murder. “

– I paid SEK 500,000, he says about the murder.

When asked how he looks at his actions, he answers:

– It was unnecessary. I would never have done it. There are other solutions. I was in a hurry and went on emotions.

Do you regret?

– Absolutely. A life is a life.

Acknowledged after prescription

During the prison period, the Arlandarånet was prescribed. Just over a month later, Carmona recognized his involvement in the newspaper ETC, hoping to have its life sentence transformed into a timed.

Carmona was released in 2021 after sitting 16 years in prison. No one has been convicted of the robbery and the money is still gone.

But now Leo Carmona reveals what happened to the 44 million.

– After we left our hiding place we went to an apartment in Kärrtorp. We spent the money on the floor and counted for about 24 hours. Then we divided them and for different roads.

This is the Arlandarånet

On July 12, 2002, a value transport of SEK 44 million was robbed at Arlanda Airport. The robbers were dressed in SAS uniforms and used insider information to carry out the coup. No one has been convicted of the robbery and the money has never been found.

Have money left

He admits that he still has parts of the prey.

– My money became digital after about a week. I actually have money left. There are people in the banking system that I can go and pick up with who are marked the Arlanda. At the same time, it is difficult to say what money I have burned and not burned. I didn’t just make money on robbery during that period. I was active and did a lot of money on other things.

Although the robbery was prescribed, the state can theoretically access the money through the new law on independent confiscation that came into force in November 2024. But according to the police, it is in practice difficult to prove what money comes from a robbery that was made over 20 years ago .
