The film came out a week ago Enemy (in English: Foe) to Amazon Prime * and has since unfolded there as a haunting science fiction film with two extraordinary acting talents, somewhere between a doomsday mood and a glimmer of hope.

In Amazon’s Enemy, humanity becomes a sci-fi ordeal

The sci-fi film Enemy takes place in the year 2065. In this future, Midwestern America has mostly withered away. But Junior’s family (Gladiator 2 star Paul Mescal) has been cultivating their piece of land here for many generations and he and his wife Hen (Saoirse Ronan) sticks to this tradition.

At least until the stranger Terrance (Aaron Pierre) knocks on their door and makes them an offer: his company is looking for farmers who can Agriculture in space to help out and they have their eye on Junior. During his absence, Hen would have a cloned copy of her husband be made available. At first this idea seems absurd to the couple, but perhaps it would be the only solution to save their home?

There are sci-fi films that impress with bombastic images full of space battles and there are those that are well thought out It is better to develop concepts in a quiet setting. Despite some flying objects and glimpses of space stations, Amazon’s Enemy by Garth Davis (Lion) definitely belongs to the second kind. But that doesn’t mean that the thriller is a disappointment for science fiction fans. The calmness with which he unfolds his story only gives the finale even more impact.

Enemy owes this primarily to his convincing stars: Saoirse Ronan, who demonstrated her exceptional acting talent in films such as Little Women and Who is Hanna? has long since proven several times, and shooting star Paul Mescal, who after Normal People and Aftersun is on his way to the Hollywood Olympus with Gladiator 2, play the couple at the center of the story vividly. Sometimes coolly and sometimes tenderly they meet each other and unfold between them a whole universe of human feelings. And what more could you ask of a sci-fi film than that?
