House of the Dragon Season 2 leaves fans worried about Aegon’s fate
The Targaryen Dynasty’s War of Succession goes down in Westeros history as the Dance of Dragons, and after the fourth episode of Season 2, we now know why. During an attack by the Greens on Crow’s Rest Castle in the Crownlands, a massive battle breaks out in the sky between three dragons and their riders.

The battle of the winged creatures ends with the tragic death of Rhaenys (Eve Best) and her dragon lady Meleys. However, the fate of King Aegon also hangs in the balance at the end of the episode.

The inexperienced and heavily drunk dragon rider fell into the depths during the battle. Only later did Kriston Kraut (Fabien Frankel) and Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) find the young king motionless and burned at the side of his badly wounded dragon Sunfire appears in a forest. However, we don’t find out whether Aegon survived this massive fall. Perhaps the trailer for episode 5 will reveal more?

Immediately after the broadcast of the latest episode of House of the Dragon, HBO released a preview of the 5th episode of the 2nd season. However, the trailer offers no resolution of the nasty cliffhanger and plays with the uncertainty surrounding Aegon’s survival.

In the preview, Meleys’ severed dragon head is presented to the cheering people of King’s Landing. A diversion to keep the king’s situation secret? Alicent Hightower says what most fans are wondering: “Is he alive?”
Aegon’s status remains unclear even after the trailer, but a meeting of the Small Council suggests the royal family will have difficult decisions to make following the incident.”The king has no shortage of heirs“, is a cynical comment from ex-hand Otto, which suggests the worst.
Since House of the Dragon is otherwise very close to the events of the novel, a look at George RR Martin’s Fire and Blood will probably reveal what happens to King Aegon after episode 4. If you don’t want to have the ending spoiled, you should stop reading at this point. Final spoiler warning.
What the House of the Dragon template reveals about Aegon’s fate
Did Aegon Targaryen survive or did he succumb to his injuries from the fall? If the fantasy series follows the original in the coming episodes, then the answer is: The king lives – and so does his dragon.
The incident has serious consequences for Aegon and all of Westeros. Parts of his body are burned, numerous bones are broken and He cannot walk for a long timeSunfire suffers a similar fate: the dragon is unable to fly and remains at the crash site, where soldiers nurse him back to health with fresh meat.
Aegon II’s tragic accident also brings another change to the course of the Dance of Dragons. Since the king is unable to rule during his recovery, his brother Aemond soon takes the crown. The rightful queen Rhaenyra will certainly not like this.
