Member of the National Security Committee of the Iranian Parliament, Yakup Rezazade, made important statements regarding the developments in Syria. Speaking to the Iranian press, Rizazade stated that diplomacy efforts for a political solution in Syria are continuing and said, “The news coming to us from Syria is not good and worrying. We are in contact with Russia. We are also meeting with countries neighboring Syria such as Turkey and Iraq.”
“THE CLAIMS ARE NOT TRUE”
Rizazade also touched upon the allegations that Bashar Assad left the country. Rezazade said that Ali Larijani, advisor to Iranian religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, met with Assad in Damascus, the capital of Syria, yesterday and said, “We hope that a political solution will be found in Syria with Ali Larijani’s visit to Damascus and the Astana talks in Doha.” “I agree that the allegations that Assad and his family left Syria are not true,” he said.
Rizazadeh, who also rejected the allegations that Iran withdrew its military advisors from Syria, said, “We have not withdrawn our military advisors from the region in Syria and our Embassy in Damascus is still active.”
