Harvest 2022 will be of quality, CREA: drought and anticipation but no drama

Harvest 2022 will be of quality CREA drought and anticipation

(Finance) – Despite the difficulties of the weather, the drought and a campaign that starts early with a variable from about 7 days to 20, depending on the different wine-growing areasthe 2022 harvest will be of quality without particular problems. This is what the Research Center for Viticulture and Oenology of the Crea-Consiglio for research in agriculture and the analysis of the agricultural economy foresees, which provided the first data and elaborated the forecast trends of the new harvest just started.

In particular, the Crea, despite Italy being united by a homogeneous weather trend from north to south of the peninsula with high temperatures and drought that characterized the spring, does not foresee any drama and crowns “the Italian vineyard as resilient to climate change”.

Overall, the vintage is good, as indicated by the data collected by Patrick Marcuzzo of Crea Viticoltura di Conegliano. “The shortage of precipitation – experts say – it has certainly facilitated the control of fungal diseases, also reducing the number of phytosanitary interventions “.

In any case, the 2022 production will not be remembered as an abundant year, mainly due to the vineyards not served by irrigation systems or rain catchment basins: in Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Veneto, a slight decrease in the quantity of production compared to 2021 (-10% and -5% respectively). Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna and Piedmont also recorded a decline. Sicily is suffering with drops of -5% / – 10% compared to the previous year. Growing in Trentino-Alto Adige (+ 5-6% compared to 2021) Tuscany and Puglia (10% more is expected for the latter).
