The US military announced that the Quds Force, which conducts operations of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards abroad, was targeted in the attacks in Syria and Iran.
It was also stated that targets were hit at 7 locations, four in Syria and three in Iraq, many warplanes were used in the attacks, and some planes took off from the USA.
REACTION FROM IRAQ AND SYRIA TO THE USA
Iraqi officials announced that at least 16 people, some of them civilians, were killed in the US attacks and warned that the attacks could have “disastrous consequences for the region.”
The spokesman of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said that the US attacks mean a violation of his country’s sovereignty and will “negatively affect the security and stability of Iraq and the region.”
In the statement made from Damascus, it was said: “The US occupation of Syrian lands cannot continue.”
Russia, on the other hand, called an “emergency” meeting of the United Nations Security Council, of which it is a permanent member, after the US air strikes in Syria and Iraq, which it said “posed a threat to peace and security”.
US President Joe Biden said that his country’s attacks “will target wherever it wants, whenever it wants” will continue, and said, “However, we want conflict in the Middle East or any other region in the world.”
Republicans in the USA criticize Biden for “responding too late” to the attack in Jordan.
The White House held the Iran-backed Hezbollah Brigades (Kataib Hezbollah) responsible for the attack on the American base in Jordan.
The attack was later claimed by the organization called Islamic Resistance in Iraq. It is believed that the organization includes many militia forces armed, financed and trained by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
American officials said that the UAV used in the attack was Iranian-made, similar to those sold to Russia, and the statement made by Iran said, “We are not in the decision-making mechanisms of the resistance groups.”
