The disagreement between the Republican wing of the US Congress and the White House on aid to Ukraine is deepening. Especially after the expected results were not obtained from Ukraine’s counter-attack, which started last June, aid provided to Kiev became one of the important topics of discussion in US politics. While Democrats and the Joe Biden administration argue that aid to Ukraine should continue, Republicans are of the opinion that resources should be devoted to the “security of the southern border of the USA” and preventing the massive influx of refugees into the country. Finally, despite US President Joe Biden’s warnings, talks on a $106 billion additional budget request, including aid to Ukraine, were blocked by a vote in the Senate.
“PUTIN WILL NOT STOP”
Speaking at the White House the other day, Biden said that they could not allow Russia to win the Ukraine war. Biden said that if Russian leader Vladimir Putin is successful against Ukraine, he could not be satisfied with this and attack a NATO country, and said, “As a NATO member, we promised to protect every square centimeter of NATO territory. “Then we will have something that we did not seek and do not have today: American troops fighting Russian troops,” he said.
FUNDING IS ABOUT TO END
Speaking on the same day, White House Spokesperson John Kirby went one step further and suggested that NATO’s Article 5 might have to be invoked. “If Putin is allowed to have his way with Ukraine, where will he stand? “It could well threaten our NATO allies and trigger Article Five commitments,” he said. While the funding authorized by Congress for Ukraine is expected to run out by the end of the year, the White House argues that this will mean a win for Russia.
KREMLIN: THERE ARE SENSE SENATORS
RUSSIA announced that they hope the US Senate will block aid to Ukraine. Referring to the words of US President Joe Biden, Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that “the White House is trying to discipline US senators” and “burn the money of US citizens in the war furnace of Ukraine”. “We hope that there are enough sane people left among the members of the US Congress,” said Peskov, adding that the end of US arms shipments to Ukraine is a prerequisite for peace talks. Russian leader Vladimir Putin has previously claimed that the Ukrainian army would collapse within a week without the support of the United States or Europe.
