A large volcanic eruption has started again in Iceland, and several places are affected. According to The evening paper the lava fountains are over 200 meters high and “stand straight up”. Thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes and a state of emergency is in place in some locations, according to the Icelandic newspaper Morgunblaðið.
According to Aftonbladet, as a result of the volcanic eruption, a power plant has now stopped its electricity production. The evacuated port city of Grindavik is thus without electricity. That particular city has previously been hit hard by volcanic eruptions, and BBC reported in February 2024 that the city’s residents have fled and are getting used to the idea that they may never be able to return as their hometown has been so badly hit by the volcanic eruptions.

Dagens Nyheter also wrote in February about how the residents had their homes destroyed by the lava. Some of the residents were given the opportunity to examine their houses and take possessions with them for six hours. 53 houses were then assessed as completely destroyed, slices DN.
Despite the fact that they can no longer live in their homes, they continue to pay interest on their loans, the newspaper wrote further.
Harsh criticism of Zara Larsson’s image: “Damn, how unsavory”
During the weekend, the artist performed Zara Larsson in Reykjavik, and on Instagram she has shared a post where she poses in front of the volcanic eruptions in a silver glittering dress. As a caption, she has written “Reporting live”.
In the comment section, Zara is met with strong reactions from followers who think she has crossed the line.
“Don’t know what kind of advisor Zara Larson is, but this is not okay. The people in the town of Grindavik have lost their homes, their jobs, their money, they’ve been forced to leave everything. Their insurance company won’t pay compensation and people from Grindavik are leaving bankrupt. To then allow yourself to be photographed dancing in front of the flames that have caused tragedies for residents of the city of Grindavik is insensitive, all to get likes.”
“Tasteless to stand and pose at a natural disaster.”
“Damn, how disgusting… models are taking pictures and videos when volcanic eruptions erupt and people in Iceland are living in unrest. What the hell are you thinking? Show some respect!”
When another person came to Zara Larsson’s defense and wrote that Zara was in the middle of the tragedy and could therefore “do what she wants with the situation”, Zara stepped in and replied:
“Tragedy”… The only ones who are upset about this are Swedes in the forest”
