In July 2024, the EU’s new directive on single-use plastics comes into effect, which means, among other things, that plastic caps must be attached to packages with liquid.
The reason for this is to reduce littering and increase the recycling of plastic.
Arla starts with plastic caps that stick
In order to comply with the new directives, Arla has had to change the packaging for milk, and last week the new cartons came out in stores.
Even cream and some yogurt will get the new plastic lids, and this is because they are packaged in the same machines as milk.
During the second quarter of 2024, Arla expects that all packaging will be replaced.

Criticism of Arla’s mistakes
But the new plastic caps stuck in the packages are not appreciated by consumers.
“Useless!”
When Nyheter24 asked readers on Facebook what they think of Arla’s new corks, the responses were anything but positive, with a few exceptions:
“Bad. The cork should be thrown away in plastic and the tetra in paper packaging. It’s idiotic that the cork is stuck.”
“Cash like hell. I take them off. Hard to get them on sometimes so sometimes they’ve leaked in the bag and shit. I understand they’re to reduce plastic in nature and they’re probably the only good ones lol”
“Useless! The cork is in the way!”
