British media reports that Prince Harry and his wife Meghan will be forced to move out of the residence in Windsor Castle that the couple used as their British base after they left the UK.
The royal residence – Frogmore Cottage – was a wedding present from Harry’s grandmother, the now late Queen Elizabeth.
According to the Daily Telegraph, among others, it is none other than King Charles’ disgraced younger brother, Prince Andrew, who will now move into the residence.
Harry and Meghan, who retain the titles Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are reported to have been told to vacate the property in January just days after the publication of Prince Harry’s high-profile memoir ‘The Other’.
Looked over the economy
Prince Harry’s father, King Charles, has long advocated a slimmed-down monarchy and, since his mother’s death last September, has overhauled the royal family’s finances.
There has been speculation that Andrews’ roughly 3.1 million Swedish kronor in annual support is about to be withdrawn. If the information is correct, it would mean that Prince Andrew will not be able to stay in his current 30-room residence, the Royal Lodge which is also located in Windsor, due to its high maintenance costs.
Moving this summer
According to anonymous sources, Harry and Meghan have until the summer to move out of Frogmore Cottage.
The Duke and Duchess moved to California in the United States in 2020 after dramatically leaving royal life in Great Britain.
Andrew has been forced to leave public royal life, among other things, because of his friendship with the now-deceased American financier Jeffery Epstein, who was convicted of sex crimes.
