The decision stages are approaching in the Australian Open tennis tournament.
Ranked #1 Jannik Sinner advanced convincingly to the semifinals of the Australian Open tennis tournament. The Italian roared to victory over the home crowd’s favorite of Alex de Minaur 6–3, 6–2, 6–1.
Sinner had in their previous match Holger Runea against health problems, but there was no information about them on Wednesday.
The match between Sinner and de Minaur was the last quarter-final, so all the semi-finalists are now clear. Sinner will face a hard-serving American in Friday’s semifinal Ben Shelton’s.
Shelton took a fight win over the Italian today From Lorenzo Sonego in chapters 6–4, 7–5, 4–6, 7–6.
Shelton rose to fame two years ago when he reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open while overseas for the first time in his life. From there, the career took off quickly.
Now Shelton is 20th on the world list. The semifinal spot of the Grand Slam tournament is already his second. The first came at the US Open last fall. However, Sinner is a big favorite in the semifinals.
They clash in the second semi-final Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev. Djokovic proved that he is still hard to beat at the age of 37 when, despite a leg injury in the opening set, he hit Carlos Alcarazin in four installments.
However, Djokovic’s 25th Grand Slam tournament victory is behind the hard work, as he still has to beat Zverev, who is in great shape, and then probably Sinner in the final.
The women’s semi-final pairs are Arina Sabalenka – Paula Badosa mixed Iga Swiatek – Madison Keys.
Swiatek, the second in the world ranking, has been in a fierce attack. The Pole has beaten his opponent by a landslide.
Instead, number one Sabalenka has had to face tougher conditions. Badosa may have a chance of surprise.
Heliövaara and Paldanius still involved
Harri Heliövaara and Henry Patten have progressed convincingly in the doubles chart already up to the semi-finals. In four matches, there has not been a single defeat.
Heliövaara has boasted his confidence in his comments and stated after each match that the game went well. Wimbledon winners have every chance to win the championship in Melbourne as well.
However, in the semi-final played on Thursday morning, the opposition will be extremely tough. German couple Kevin Krawietz / Tim Pütz won the ATP final tournament in Turin at the end of last season and has already managed to win Heliövaara and Patten this season.
The Germans are ranked fourth in the tournament, the Finnish-British pair sixth.
At the top of the chart in the second semi-final are the third-placed Italians Simone Bolelli / Andrea Vavassori and a surprise couple, from Sweden Andre Göransson and the Netherlands Sem Verbeek.
Noise hazard and Anna Danilina were eliminated in the mixed doubles in the second round despite having three match points. In that match, Heliövaara was not at his best in the decisive moments.
Patten moved forward by Olivia Nicholls with until the semi-finals. There was a loss in the semifinals, so Patten now also has full focus on the doubles.
In the junior series, 17 years old, ranked seventh Oskari Paldanius is also still in the tournament.
Paldanius will face the fourth ranked American in the quarterfinals early on Thursday morning Jack Kennedy’s.
Heliövaara and Paldanius are part of the Finnish Davis Cup team, which will face Austria next week.
